Firstly, we would like to express our appreciation to the local medical professional team led by Dr. Terry Jenkins of the St. Joseph Cancer Clinic in the diagnosis, treatment, and extended care by the support staff of our wife, and mother Victoria Anne Simons during her fight and survival against colon cancer from March 17, 2009. These additional caring professionals need recognition for their tireless endeavors to the sick: the oncology nurses: Russell, Jayne, Paula, Elizabeth, Pam and to our doctors: Dr. Tripathy, Dr. Fleener, Dr. Alford, Dr. Charles Moore, Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Gloria Mays, Dr. Dawson, Dr. Marr, Dr. Weaver, Dr. Coffman, Dr. Linda Price, and Dr. Kuhl. Secondly, a special place is reserved for the professional personnel who have the most difficult job of all, the Brazos Valley Hospice Care on a daily basis with palliative understanding and support for both family and patient: Pastor Roe, Sandra Gates, Carla Bennett, Gwen Barber, Bridgett Cantey, Craig McSpadden, Pat Minor, Lesa Morton, Latoya Browning, Elizabeth Wishert, Jackie Schreader, Cindy Holden, Dalas Burkett, Diana Hill, Susan Anderson, Linda Cotter, Robin Kenney, and Amy Way.
Victoria Anne Pechin was born in Abilene, Texas, to Robert A. Pechin and Anna (Nelson) Pechin. Victoria graduated from Abilene High School and Hardin Simmons University prior to her marriage to Elmo J. Osborne in Abilene, Texas, with their subsequent residence in Austin, Texas. A daughter, JonAnn Osborne, was born to this union. Her second marriage to Donald F. Simons in Austin, Texas, resulted in three additional children, Melissa Anne (Mr. & Mrs. Don Crume), Elizabeth Ann (Mr. & Mrs. Terry Mathis), and Pamela Anne all born in Bryan, Texas, with all four girls attending Bryan and Denton, Texas, schools. Jon Ann Osborne (Mr. & Mrs. James Wells), our daughter, graduated from Denton High and North Texas State University. The three Simons girls graduated from Bryan High after the Simons family returned to the Bryan community as a member of the Texas A&M staff. Victoria was a valued community leader in Girl Scout activities; the KAMU-FM and KAMU-TV volunteers; local churches; and local genealogy research on cemeteries; supporting Masonic lodge functions; American Legion activities and finally becoming “First Lady of the State of Texas American Legion 1999-2000”. Her greatest joy was the successful achievement for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and love contained within a fifty-two and one half year marriage, to the very day. Our family is honored to have shared a Christian family life of love, hope, faith, service, and inspiration, from this exceptional Texas woman.
Visitation will be held at the Memorial Funeral Chapel 1515 So College Ave., in Bryan, Texas, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Saturday, December 28th, and internment will be in the Wixon Cemetery on FM 1776 at 1:30 pm, Sunday, December 29th, in Wixon Valley, Texas.
