Sara Frances Adcox McMath passed away peacefully at home in Bryan, Texas at the age of 87 on April 6, 2025. There will be a graveside service on April 10th at 10:30 am at the Strong Cemetery in Strong Arkansas.
Sara “Nanny” will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren, but there is comfort and hope in the knowledge that Sara is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and she is reunited with her true love- Grady as well as many other family members.
Sara was born on February 17, 1938 in Buhl, Alabama. She spent most of her childhood in El Dorado, Arkansas where she graduated from El Dorado High School. She then attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated with Bachelors and Masters degrees in English. Sara married Henry Grady McMath Jr. on July 2, 1960. She moved with him to Oklahoma, California, and Clear Lake City, Texas where Grady worked for Exxon Chemicals, and they raised their two boys John and Mark. Sara was a devoted wife and mother, and she cared so well for her family. She also spent many hours serving in her church and community.
Grady and Sara moved to Bryan Texas in 2006 to be close to their grandchildren. They were married for 47 years at Grady’s passing in 2008. Sara continued to live in Bryan and was a loving, devoted grandmother to Katie and Mark Jr. Sara was an avid reader, enjoying weekly trips to the library. She also loved to attend her grandchildren’s school activities whenever possible. In 2020 Sara moved in with Mark Sr. and Shannon, and spent her days watching the deer and birds in the yard. More recently, Sara found pure joy in being able to see her great granddaughter, Layla, when she would come to the house and play.
Sara is survived by her children John McMath of Houston, and Mark Sr. and Shannon McMath of Bryan, her grandchildren Katie and Carlos Coto of Bryan, Mark Jr. and Alexia McMath of Bryan, great- granddaughter Layla Coto, her sister Peggy Mattison, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe W. Adcox and Mary Johnson Adcox, brother Billy Adcox, sister Elizabeth Brown, and brother John Edward Adcox.
