at home surrounded by his family after a three year battle with cancer. Sam was a loving
husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend who devoted his life to his family. His love for his
family and his love for the lord took precedent over anything else. He took great pride in having
family get togethers especially spending time with his grandkids, cooking bar-b-que and fishing. Every
Christmas he took great pleasure in buying each little one in the family something special under the
Tree.
Sam was born in Houston, TX on April 2, 1962. He attended the Bryan Independent School District. He
was an employee for City of Bryan for eleven years. He then switched careers and started
hauling heavy equipment for RSC rentals. He was also a loyal employee of We Rent It for many years
which turned a few of his coworkers into family. Allen and Charlie were bosses that turned brothers
to Sam. At the time of his retirement Sam was employed with Herc Rentals. Many of his coworkers
knew and loved Sam.
In 1993, Sam met his future wife Barbara after being set up on a blind date by her sister Vivan. They
dated for five years and were happily married for twenty-five years. Some of their greatest moments
they shared together was watching their grandkids grow up.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents Gavino P. Acosta Sr. and Santos Ortiz Acosta, nephew
Roy Reyes and brother-in-laws Jesse "Stump" Castillo Jr. and Richard Rosas of Bryan.
Survivors include his wife Barbara, daughter Ashley and son-in-law Cruz O'Bella, son Josh
Carillo, grandaughter Olivia Acosta and grandson Santos "Pappas" O'Bella, his brothers and
sisters and their spouses, Robert and Delores Acosta of Cameron, Gavino (Yogi) Acosta Jr.,
Connie Rosas, Annette Acosta, Eugene Acosta, Roy Acosta, Simon and Christina Acosta, all of
Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
On behalf of the family we would like to thank the staff and medical teams at St. Joseph's Hospital including Dr. Fleener and Dr. Tang, Hospice Brazos Valley and everyone who continued to pray and provide support to Sam and his family. He is already greatly missed.
