She is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Gracy Urso of Kaufman, TX. She leaves behind several nieces, nephews and friends that were precious to her.
Ruby's father was a railroad engineer, so they moved often during her youth. She attended school in Hearne, Wheelock, Houston, Ennis and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan. She met and fell in love with Sam while in high school, and they were married on October 18, 1958. They were married for 48 years until Sam's death in 2006. Sam and Ruby were the owners of Sam’s Drive-In and Donut Shop in Bryan, a high-school hangout for many students who loved their “Deluxe Burgers” and delicious donuts. Later they owned a convenience store, U-Pak-M in College Station, and Sam’s Country Store in the Steep Hollow community.
For many of those years that they were business owners, she also worked in the business office at the Montgomery Ward in Bryan and later retired after working for several years as a computer trainer in the Evans Library at Texas A&M University. Ruby enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden and beautiful roses and flowers at their home near Kurten. She was a great cook and enjoyed canning her vegetables and making homemade jellies and jams that she shared with family and friends. She and Sam were avid bowlers and also enjoyed fishing together at their home in the country.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Grandma loved showing them the beauty of country living and spoiling them with special treats.
Ruby was a lifelong Christian. Her faith was very important to her, and she shared that belief with her family by faithfully attending church and reading her bible. She loved her husband, her family and the Lord.
Serving as pallbearers will be Shea Urso, Keith Urso, Brendan Bligh, Andy Hood, David Rainwater, Kirk Barnes and Mark Hopcus.
