Ronald Earl “Ronny” Young went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 20, 2023, after a 4 year battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma. He was born in Waco, Texas on December 8, 1947, to Herbert L Young and Bertha “Bertie” Castilow Young. Ronny has one younger brother Herbert L “Larry” Young Jr. He completed high school at Waco Midway in 1966 before moving to Bryan, Texas where he went to Texas A&M for a brief stent while working at his dad’s construction business. In 1966, he and his family moved to Bryan and relocated the family business which later became known as Young and Sons. He remained in the construction business throughout his whole life in some fashion. He married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Murphy Young on July 25, 1970.
Ronny had a great love of all things dirt and construction. He was a true entrepreneur and tried many new things throughout his time in Bryan, College Station. Ronny considered himself a problem solver. He stepped away from the family business to try his hand at a few other endeavors. One of the most memorable is when he worked within the Equine Industry and invented the Horse Stall Vacuum EquiVac. He saw his girls battle with each other cleaning their horse stalls and realized there must be an easier way. Along the way, he invented numerous other things, but always came back to his first love of construction. He never saw a “dirt” problem he couldn’t solve! Ronnie loved when he’d get a call from someone to help them through a “situation.” His advice was second to none!
Ronny is preceded in death by his parents Herbert & Bertie Young, his youngest daughter, Kathleen “Katie” Young, and his great niece, Kameryn Young. Ronny leaves behind a legacy of loved ones who cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Phyllis Murphy Young of 52 years and 11 months, his brother and his wife Larry and Beverly Young; his daughters, Elizabeth Blumberg and husband Greg, and Ashley Crawford and husband Jason. Probably most precious to him, his grandsons, Kyle Travis, Ryan Joseph, Chase Douglas and William Ronald. His nieces and nephew Lindy Young Beasley and husband Chris, Crystal Young Schinzler and husband Mark, and Matthew “Matt” Young and wife Brooke; and their children, Weston, Wyatt, Deliah, Damaris, Denton, Kristine as well as countless extended family and friends.
Ronnie will be remembered for his larger-than-life demeanor, his giving spirit and kindness. He loved his family fiercely and never met a stranger. He was often referred to as the life of the party. He gave the best bear hugs and made people feel like a part of the family. He could play the guitar by ear and sing along to any country song he liked. The most important part of music was the company it surrounded him with. Ronny was a man of many talents! His best talent was making you feel loved and his witty comebacks! His legacy is one for the books and will be carried on through his family and loved ones!
We would like to thank everyone who has helped him throughout his fight with cancer, especially his amazing doctors and nurses who got a dose of “Ronny.”
