Oscar Frans Johnson was born on July 22, 1933, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Frans Oskar and Alma Johnson. He proudly served as a reservist in the United States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Oscar earned his electrical engineering degree from The University of Houston and devoted over 40 years to his profession before retiring to pursue his true passion in farming.
In 1964, Oscar met the love of his life, Gertrude "Gert" McNitt, at church and they were married in 1965, in Houston, Texas. While they did not have any biological children, Oscar and Gert opened their hearts and home to seven “adopted” children, nurturing them with love and care. Their legacy expanded as they became proud grandparents to 19 grandchildren.
Oscar and Gert actively served in their local church community wherever they resided. Oscar had an enthusiasm for studying the Bible and led countless Sunday School classes and Bible studies over the years. He found joy in sharing the Gospel with everyone he encountered, leaving a profound impact on the spiritual lives of many.
Oscar will forever be remembered by those who knew him as a loquacious intellectual who never met a stranger. In addition to farming, his passions included engineering, hunting, shooting, hand-loading, and politics. He was a strong Christian man with unwavering integrity, character, and a servant’s heart. In more recent years, Oscar and Gert moved to Snook, Texas, where he loved working on his tractor and hosting visitors at his farm.
Oscar was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years; his parents; sister-in-law, Lureen F. Mullally; and granddaughter, Cora Marian McDonald. He is survived by his children, Melody Dorman, Patrick Dorman (Eva), Troy Dorman (Brooke), Joy Laird Carroll (Trey), Bilinda Dorman Soto, Ladd Laird (Brandi), Holly Dorman McDonald (Todd); 18 grandchildren; brother-in-law Charles Mullally; nieces Darcy Mullally and Shannon Mullally; and grand nephews.
