Mildred L. Smith, 92, formerly of 3107 Bonham in Bryan, was called home by her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday evening, June 12, 2012, at the Madisonville Care Center in Madisonville. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Reverend Nate Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Willowhole Cemetery in Madison County. Visitation was held Thursday evening from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mildred was born November 12, 1919 in Madison County, Texas to Ellis and Virgie Ware Neeley. She was a homemaker. She loved gardening and canning vegetables, quilting and sewing. She loved serving her church working in the flower beds, tending to the flowers, and the church yard at New Life Tabernacle Church in Bryan. She was a wonderful mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her first husband J.E. “Slim” Strickland on November 30, 1963, and by her second husband Addison Smith on July 16, 1990; an infant son, Billy Joe; a daughter Linda Huddleston; five brothers, Oran, Cecil, Johnny, J.D. and Alton Neeley; two sisters, Bonnie Fuschak, and Dean Wiese; and a step-son, Claude Smith.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Linda Strickland of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Juan Longoria of Corinth, Texas; sisters Lucille Richards of Bryan and Lois Eakes of Waller; step-son, Don Smith and his wife Margie of New Caney; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
