Mary Louise Kalinec McCollom, 98, born on April 4, 1924 went to be with our Heavenly Father September 18, 2022. A visitation will be held Wednesday September 21 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a recitation of holy rosary from 7:00 to 7:30pm. Graveside service will be held on Thursday September 22 at 1:00 pm at Smetana Cemetery with the Reverend Monsignor John McCaffrey officiating.
Mary was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church and resident of Smetana, Texas. She saw many changes during her 98 years including the building of the Army Air Field across the road from her family farm which is now the Texas A&M RELLIS campus. In 2018, she was interviewed by author Tim Gregg and her story was in The Eagle newspaper and included in the book RELLIS Recollections which she loved to share with people. Throughout her life Mary loved trail riding, dancing at the SPJST, fishing in Matagorda with Ollie Tom and Evelyn Lenz and Buddy and Nell Riley, driving to Vegas with Jack and Mildred Conrad and any other adventures she and her husband Cread could get into with their many friends and family.
Any time you needed her help she would be there for you unless it was Thursday morning which was hair day, then you were going to have to wait until that was taken care of. Her family loves to tell of the time Cread was being discharged from St. Joseph Hospital on a Thursday morning and rather than interrupt he patiently waited on the bench out front refusing a ride from anyone saying she would be along shortly. They were married 50 years when he passed away in 2014 and she was heart broken without him.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Cread McCollom, parents John and Lucille Kalinec, brothers Willie, Henry, Edward, James and sister Shirley Scoggins. She is survived by her son Louis Massey of Bryan, TX, grandchildren Jimmy Massey and Sheila Dotson of Bryan, TX, great-grandchildren Cread Dotson of San Antonio, TX and Cade Dotson of Bryan, TX, brother-in-law James McCollom of Beeville, TX, step-daughter Mollie McCollom-Miles and husband Llyod of Rowlett, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved .
The family wishes to thank Maggie Alexander, the staff and residents of Broadmoor Place where Mary spent the last few years for loving her as much as we all do. She lead a walking group daily and loved the social opportunities, especially her weekly hair appointments.
Thank you to Randy Holler, Jason Siegert, Mike Kalinec, Stephen Ondrasek, Craig Okonski, and Mike Okonski for serving as Pallbearers.
