Mary Ann MeMaw "MeMaw" Vrana Tubbs

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Bryan. Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignors John McCaffrey and John Malinowski. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mary Ann "Memaw" Tubbs was born on October 26, 1921 in Granger, Texas to John & Frances Vrana, she was the baby of twelve siblings. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for more than 45 years, practiced and lived her life a very devoted Catholic.

Mary was loved and known to everyone as "Memaw", she couldn't go anywhere without someone knowing who she was, and those who knew her, knew what "Jak se mas" meant. She loved her Czech culture and enjoyed talking Czech to any one, whether they understood what she was saying or not.

She loved playing bingo & dominoes and would start a domino game anywhere and with anyone who was willing.

She was on bowling leagues even in her 80's and scoring numerous, perfect 300-point games. She loved garage sales and was considered the "queen"; if she couldn't make a bargain she didn't want it. She loved knick-knacks and at last count had more than 108 clocks.

Mary and her family moved to Bryan in 1959, where they owned and operated the Fina gas station on 29th Street & Texas Avenue. No job was too hard; she helped with changing tires, oil and pumping gas.

Every Saturday for 40 years, you could find her at St. Anthony's Catholic Church cleaning and preparing the church for services. Every Sunday for 30 years, she was "Memaw" Tubbs for the church nursery, as well as the Mother's Day Out for numerous years.

She also worked at both St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Catholic Church rectories for the priests as cook and housekeeper for numerous combined years.

"Memaw" we will miss you deeply, you will be in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, Walter Tubbs Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel & Angela Tubbs; daughter, Nancy McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Tubbs; granddaughter, Patricia Tubbs; and ten brothers and sisters.

She was loved and cherished by her sons, Walter Tubbs Jr., Stanley Tubbs and wife, Mitzi; daughter, Frances Wood and husband, Carroll; son-in-law- James McDaniel; grandsons, James, Glenn, Greg, Ricky, Tracy and Devon Tubbs, Matt & Steve Wood and Chris Gilbertson; granddaughters, Lisa Marino, Debra Dodd, Vicki Kemp, Kim Leonard, Sherry Couch and Bea Kratz; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
