Lydia Ann (Luksa) Boone, 90, of Bryan passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at Burleson St. Joseph Manor in Caldwell. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery in Bryan. Officiating will be Rev. Ryan Dansby. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 21 and 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Boone was born October 30, 1921 on a farm near Deanville. She moved to Austin at the age of 21 and worked for the Western Union and later for Seaton Hospital as a nurse. She met her husband Richard at a dance at Camp Swift near Austin. They married on February 5, 1946 in Palo Alto, CA where he was stationed at that time in the US Army. While there, she continued her nursing career. They moved to Caldwell in 1947 and then to Bryan/College Station in 1949 where they lived and raised their family. Mrs. Boone worked as a nurse for 34 years at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. Most of those years were spent in the nursery taking care of the newborn babies. She retired in 1983. She and her husband were members of First United Methodist Church.
The loves of her life were her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her retirement years she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, going to family reunions, and camping with her family. They took many family trips, including one to Palo Duro Canyon and the most memorable, a weeklong trip to the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. She also was very proud of her Czech heritage. She enjoyed making kolaches and going to waltz and polka dances.
Mrs. Boone was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard Boone, great-grandson Cameron Boone, her parents John and Annie Luksa, and son-in-law Luke Cemino, Sr.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Billy Sanders of Bryan; daughter Barbara Boone Cemino and friend Ray Shumate of Huntsville; son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Karen Boone of Bryan; granddaughter and husband Lisa and Tony Gryboski of Battle Creek, MI; granddaughter and husband Marsha and Collin Teuton of Richmond; grandson Justin Boone of Houston and friend Jennifer Rogers; granddaughter and husband Lauren and Allen Lindsey of Madisonville; grandson Nathan Boone of Bryan; great-granddaughter Mackenzie Teuton of Richmond; and great-grandson Jackson Gryboski of Battle Creek, MI.
Pallbearers for the service are Justin Boone, Nathan Boone, Allen Lindsey, Billy Sanders, Collin Teuton, and George Vanderhule. Honorary pallbearers are Lisa and Tony Gryboski, Marsha Teuton, Lauren Lindsey, and Ray Shumate.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Kia Parsi and the staffs of Burleson St. Joseph Manor, Burleson St. Joseph Hospital, and Texas Home Health Hospice for all their help and support.
