Mrs. Salazar was born in Highbank, Texas, the daughter of Felix and Cecilia (Buentello) Martinez. The family moved to Calvert in her early childhood and attended Calvert school.
She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Calvert High School.
She was married to Tom Salazar and together they raised three children, Connie, Jimmy and Johnny. After her children were grown, she started a career as the school secretary at Calvert High School and remained there until she retired with over 20 years of service.
Mrs. Salazar was a member of the Calvert First Baptist Church. She loved to read and could be found at the Calvert Library on a weekly basis. She also enjoyed being outdoors, taking care of her yard. Her primary focus was always her loving family and she enjoyed cooking "comfort food" for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her husband.
Survivors include her children, Connie Allen of Pflugerville, Jimmy Salazar of Bryan and nephew John Martinez of Houston, who she raised as her son; four grandchildren, Greg Ward, Leslie Allen, Anthony Salazar, and Janie Hart; nine great grandchildren, Thomas, Jonathan, Christian, Brittany, Kelly, Brooklyn, Maddy, Corrine, and Trinity -- and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Salazar was loved and respected by those she touched during her role as secretary at Calvert High School and recently by the caring staff of The Cottages at Chandler Creek in Round Rock where she spent her last year. She was loved for her sweet disposition coupled with a feisty ability to speak her mind. Her family will miss her, but rest in the assurance of her joyful reunion with loved ones in Heaven.
