Jane Nugent Hafner Anderson was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 21, 1928. Her parents were Jane Nugent Hafner and Joseph A. Hafner, Jr. In 1932 the young family moved to Houston, Texas to participate in the oil business. Jane grew up there attending the Kinkaid School and graduating from Lamar High School in 1945. During her high school years, Jane and her friends were invited to attend the dances at Texas A and M College in Sbisa Dining Hall. The Blue Bonnet Ball was a favorite. The girls traveled by train from Houston and stayed in a vacant cadet dorm. After the dance they were checked into the dorm by the resident Housemother.
On to college at Bradford College in Bradford, Massachusetts from which she graduated in 1948.
The years passed quickly and in 1962, Jane found herself back in Bryan-College Station, this time with three young children- Peter Squire, Charlotte Squire, and Josephine Squire. She became a member of St. Andrew Episcopal. She also found many activities to enjoy in the Woman's Club, OPAS, the Historical Society, the Humane Society, St. Michael's Academy, and last of all her beloved horses and group of friends.
During this time she also started a small travel company, Brazos Valley Tours. She and her friend, Pat Gillespe, organized group tours by motorcoach to many unusual and interesting places....her favorite trip being a cruise on the Mississippi River aboard the original steamboat, the Delta Queen. In 2003, Jane and Dr. Frank Anderson, Jr. were married in the Church of the Epiphany in Calvert, Texas. This was the happiest time of all-sort of icing on the cake of a long and blessed life.
She was predeceased by her son Peter Hafner Squire.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Frank Anderson, and her daughters and sons-in-law Charlotte and James McCarter, and Josephine and Kelly Ireland. Her grandchildren, David Joseph Ireland and wife Chelsea, Wesley Thomas Ireland, Amanda VanRooyen and husband Joe, and James Reed McCarter.
She is also survived by Edith Anderson Wakefield and husband Richard, and their children Richard Anderson Wakefield and wife Hailey and Helen Wakefield and husband Diego Ibarra. Frank Anderson III and wife Kathy and son Travis Anderson. She was blessed with six great grandchildren. Holden McCarter, Ezra Jane McCarter, Claire Ireland, Hannah, Harper, and John Wakefield.
A funeral service for Jane will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 217 W 26th St, Bryan, TX 77803. Following the funeral service will be a burial from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007.
