Gertrude Thweatt, 90, passed away Thursday September 15 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Rev. Clint Reiff officiating. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday evening.
Gertrude was born March 23, 1921 in Branchville, Texas; the daughter of Ewell and Wilma Gertrude (Wilkinson) Walston. A very spiritual woman, Gertrude served her Lord and her church by reading scriptures and praying with the prayer chains in her church. She taught Sunday school most of her adult life and played the piano for Grace Methodist Church in Hearne, Calvary Baptist in Bryan and First United Methodist Church in Bryan. Her Family, her church and our country were the important things in her life.
Gertrude had a love for sewing; she was one of the founding members of the Brazos Valley Bluebonnet Quilt Guild. Gertrude was known for growing her beautiful hearty roses in her garden. She was a hard worker all of her life, but still enjoyed the simple things. Her family was the greatest joy to her.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, Tom Rieff.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Thweatt; son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Yasmin Thweatt all of Bryan; sister, Mary Lou Reiff of Houston; grandchildren; Tiffany Thweatt, Scooter Thweatt, Johnnie Karl Oehler, Phillip Anthony Oehler and wife Sharon, Dea Almanza, Heather Sorensen and husband Eric, Christian Almanza; great-grandchildren, Coulter Oehler and wife Samantha, Kelsea Oehler, Grace Sorensen; great-great-granddaughter, Jaycie Oehler; nephews and nieces, Matt and Dianne Reiff and their children, Clint and Donna Reiff and their children.
