Dorothy Ann (Becker) Herwald, 91 years old, passed away on April 7, 2025, in Bryan, Texas. Dorothy was born to Will H. and Minnie (Wehmeyer) Becker on October 16, 1933, in Bryan, Texas. Her father was a dairyman, and her mother was a seamstress.
Dorothy was a charter member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bryan. She was baptized on November 12, 1933, and confirmed her faith on May 25, 1947. As a young girl Dorothy taught herself how to play the organ. She began playing the organ at Bethel when she was only 13 years old and played for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Adult Choir at Bethel and also served the church in many other ways throughout her lifetime.
After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan in 1951, Dorothy worked for Dr. Carlton Lee until August of 1956.
Dorothy was introduced to Art Herwald on a blind date on July 4, 1954. Art and Dorothy were married on January 29, 1955, and were together for almost 69 years before Art passed away on December 31, 2023. They were blessed with three children.
In June of 1957 Art and Dorothy founded Herwald Pest Control and they both ran the company for 31 years until they sold it to Waste Management Inc., a Fortune 500 company, in 1988.
Art and Dorothy loved to vacation and travel with family and friends both in the United States and abroad. They also enjoyed attending many football and basketball games together at Texas A&M University. Dorothy also enjoyed attending many OPAS performances at Texas A&M University with friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Greg Herwald, her sister Mildred Griesse and husband Ted, her sister Ruby Brown, her sister Jeneva Luedtke and husband Charles.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa and Kenneth Loke and Susan and Tim Gade; daughter-in-law Kathy Herwald; seven grandchildren: Brian Herwald (Gabi), Aaron Herwald (Christina), Jeffrey Herwald, Laura Loke, Amy Marino (Joey), Taylor Gade (Jolie) and Jason Gade; three great-grandchildren: Arthur “Archie” Herwald, Charlotte and Emily Herwald; brother-in-law James Herwald; as well as many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church at 4221 Boonville Road in Bryan, Texas.
There will be a private family graveside service at Memorial Cemetery of College Station.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to Bethel Lutheran Church of Bryan or the Brazos Church Pantry.
