Born in Bryan, TX, Donald Henderson was a graduate of Bryan High School, a 1958 graduate of Texas A&M School of Architecture, College Station, and served in the Army Reserves for four years. Donald was a world-renowned architect working with some of the architectural greats such as Philip Johnson and the principals at Butler’s, Rogers & Basket Architectural firm in NYC. He worked on notable buildings and projects such as Canary Wharf in London, The Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, the NASA vault holding the moon rocks from the Apollo missions, and was lead architect of the Rothko Chapel in Houston amongst many. Donald lived in London as well as cities surrounding NYC during his career such as Rowayton, CT, Coldspring, NY and Redding, CT enjoying the early morning commute on the Metro-North rail line to NYC. He and his wife, Clotilde (Sucie) Henderson, retired in Windsor, MA and then in 2016, joined their son and daughter-in-law Gardiner and Teresa Henderson in The Woodlands, TX to live out the remainder of their full lives.
Donald is pre-deceased by his wife Clotilde (Sucie) Henderson, his son Bartlett Henderson, and his sister Lelia Taylor.
Surviving family members include his son and daughter-in-law Gardiner and Teresa Henderson of Iola, TX; his son and daughter-in-law Donald Charles and Paula Henderson of Austin, TX; his son Philip Henderson of Atlanta, GA; his cousin Evelyn Francis of Wheelock, TX; his two nieces Patricia Lempeotis of Rule, TX and Terri Sue Gonzales of Wichita Falls, TX; and his five grandchildren: Ashley Edward’s of Ann Arbor, MI; Katie Gabbert of Johns Island, SC; Lucy Henderson of Philadelphia, PA; Bryn Urbano of Richmond, VA; and Dean Stephens of Huntsville, TX. Additionally he was graced with four great-grandchildren: Walker and Emmett Gabbert of Johns Island, SC and Jack and Parker Edwards of Ann Arbor, MI.
Services will be held graveside at Bryan City Cemetery on Friday, April 18th at 11:00am and will be officiated by Minister Jennifer Hodson. Services to be followed by a lunch to be shared.
