Danville “Dan” S. Chadbourne, 92, of Bryan passed away, March 21, 2017 in Bryan. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, March 24th, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 25th, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
Dan was born December 3, 1924 in Beaumont, Texas, the son of Vaughn and Bertha (Baus) Chadbourne. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served on the island of Emirau as a Gunner on B-25 bomber, surviving 38 missions.
After the war, Dan earned a Bachelor of Science in Entomology and a Master’s degree in Bio Chemistry from Texas A&M University, and then worked in Mexico for 10 years. He was a co-founder of the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center in Bryan and the owner of La Selva Orchids & Nursery in College Station. Dan was an accomplished orchid grower and hybridizer, winning many awards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Douglas and David; son-in-law, Bart Humphreys; and a special granddaughter, Emily Ruth.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Eddie Ruth Chadbourne; four children, Danville and Diana Chadbourne, Ava Humphreys, Amy and Fred Rapczyk, and Ann Soto; a brother, John Chadbourne; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
