Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Smetana Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Catherine was born in Madisonville, Texas on July 20, 1945 the daughter of Raymond and Vivian (Rumfield) Easley. The family moved to Bryan when she was five years old. Catherine married the love of her life, Jack Lester Grant on December 18, 1973. She and Jack rejoiced at the birth of their granddaughter, Leanne Nicole Marek on January 1, 2001.
Catherine worked from the time that she was a teenager at different jobs in Bryan. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1962. She managed the Copy Center for Bryan Independent School District for 30 years. She transferred to the TAMU Soil and Crop Science Division, retiring from there in May of 2004.
“Cat” was a founder and longtime member of the Brazos Valley Poultry Club. She exhibited poultry for several years before her health curtailed this pleasure. “Cat” was the author, editor and publisher of Who’s Who in Poultry. She appeared on the David Letterman Show twice and the Johnny Carson Show once with her exhibitions Bantams.
“Cat” enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting with her hounds and most of all taking care of her granddaughter Leanne. She loved to cook and invited all of her extended family to come out to the farm for holiday meals. Having a big crowd was not a chore but a joy to “Cat” and especially Jack when he was alive.
“Cat” is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her loving husband, Jack Lester Grant; and a brother-in-law, Russell Cooper.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David Wayne Marek, Darrell Edward and Melissa Dawn Marek; granddaughters, Leanne Nicole Marek, Kaitlyn Michelle Marek, Denise Steele and Jesslyn Fullerton; grandsons, Cody Flanagan and Tyler Flanagan; great-grandchildren, Pystol Brooke Flanagan, Lily Lucille Flanagan and Harper Dawn Flanagan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian Cooper, Deanie and Donald Kellett, Nelda Moore, Ruth and John Miller, Sandra and Charles Tubbs, Elizabeth and Rick Watson, Michelle and Keith Houston; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Sandra Easley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to the Mt. Calvary Smetana Cemetery fence fund at St. Joseph Catholic Church, or the American Cancer Society or M.D. Anderson Hospital.
