Billie Faye Wentrcek, 92, of Bryan, Texas went to be with the Lord on September 17, 2022. Billie was born in Nashville, Howard Co., Arkansas, to Otis Rosten Cooley and Roxie Anna Stringer Cooley. She lived her first eight years at Tokio, Arkansas, but upon her father’s death in 1938, her mother moved the family to Hot Springs, Arkansas.
While working in a Hot Springs ice cream parlor, she met a young soldier who was stationed at the Army/Navy Hospital just a few blocks away. Before too long he was coming into the parlor daily and was rewarded with free ice cream. He then started walking Billie home each evening after work, and on 10 May 1947 she and Ernest Wentrcek were married in the Army/Navy Hospital chapel in Hot Springs.
Upon completion of his military service, Ernest brought Billie home to settle in Bryan, Texas, where they raised four sons. Billie was an avid reader of books about Queen Elizabeth and the royal family, the Kennedys of Massachusetts, and other historical non-fiction books. For many years she was reading two books a week and even kept a book in the trunk of her car in case she forgot to take a book to the doctor’s office. She also enjoyed interior decorating, and for years she worked with the family construction company picking out wall paper, paint colors, tiles and flooring.
In 1938 Billie, along with her father, contracted typhoid fever. After a few days her father passed away, but after being bedridden for six months Billie recovered. She then spent weeks learning to walk again.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest Wentrcek, a son David Wayne Wentrcek, her three brothers Dave, Harry and Owen; and two sisters Pauline Fox and Bonnie Canada.
Billie is survived by three of her sons: Ernie Wentrcek, Jr. and his wife, Ginger Young Wentrcek; Gary Wentrcek and his wife, Doreen Varisco Wentrcek, and Larry Wentrcek and his wife, Jaime Wright Wentrcek. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
A visitation for Billie will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1515 South College Avenue, Bryan, Texas. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM, 1515 South College Avenue, Bryan. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery, 5103 N Texas Ave, Bryan, Texas 77803.
The Wentrcek Family extends their gratitude for the staff at Broadmoor Place Assisted Living, Enhabit Hospice and Bluebonnet Hospice for the wonderful care and kindness they provided for our mother during the last weeks of her life.
