He was born November 25, 1943 to the late Emerson Graham “Pete” Sasser and Frances Cofer Sasser in Brunswick and grew up on St. Simons Island, where his grandmother, Ruby Cofer, managed the Golden Isles Hotel.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandson, Benjamin Thomas Sasser. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sallie O’Quinn Sasser; his daughter, Shannon (Bryan) Mechutan of Brooklyn, New York; his son, Beau (Lisa) Sasser of St. Simons Island; and his grandchildren, Frederica Mechutan and Dylan, Gray, Jonathan, and Owen Sasser; plus a host of extended family.
Mike lived most of his life on St. Simons and loved fishing and being on the water. A private memorial for his immediate family will be held at a later date. Mike’s wish was to be cremated and for his ashes to be scattered at his secret fishing hole.
