Theresa Angela Alice Mungo Scott, known and beloved as Mom, Gami, Terry, Therese, and Mrs. Scott by family, friends, and countless students, passed away peacefully at age 86, amongst family on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in Saint Simons Island, GA.
While not long enough for all those who miss her dearly, Terry enjoyed a long and full life, living and traveling around the country and abroad. Born August 18, 1936 in New York City, Terry was the oldest daughter of Italian father, Joseph “Daddy Joe” Mungo, and Norwegian mother, Eunice “Gami” Anderson, and sister to Joanne, Barbara, and Beverly. The family lived in Queens, NY, and Terry would often retell the stories of the 2-bedroom apartment, long walks and subway rides to Catholic school, and days spent with her sisters at the movies. Terry graduated from New York University (NYU) with a BA (1958) and MA (1961) in Biological Education, before marrying a fellow New York City progeny and military officer, Walter J. Scott, and rearing four children, Teralyn, Skip, Kim, and Tamara. With her family stationed at Army posts around the country and overseas, and finally settling in Arlington, Texas, Terry taught biology and chemistry at the high school level for 30 years and anatomy and physiology at the college level for 25 years.
A loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother of 10, great grandmother of 6, and fur mom of many, Terry embraced her immediate and extended family, ever nurturing those that both defined her and were, in turn, defined by her. As with her family, Terry was equally if not sometimes, seemingly to her family, even more passionate about teaching and her students, tirelessly looking to share her knowledge, enthusiasm, and endless thirst for learning with whomever she could. She was an avid reader, with an expansive range of interests and subject matter, from factual documentary and biographical to the fantastical and fictional; an intrepid traveler, with favorite trips being her many African safaris, Galapagos Islands, cruises, and at least annually, Las Vegas; and consummate conversationalist, willing, able, and apt to talk to anyone about anything! Above all, Terry was, in all things, a doer. While certainly beset by hardships, she was never one to dwell on misfortune, complain, or succumb to resentment. Ever resilient, Terry faced things head on and moved forward, come what may, for one and all.
Terry is survived by her sister Barbara (Eddie); children Teralyn, Skip, Kim (Gary), and Tamara (Bill); grandchildren Jorde (JJ), Nick (Mallori), Brett (Ashley), Colin, Connor, Taryn (Michael), Peter, Kirsten, Ryen, and Max; great grandchildren Sloan, George, Nora, Henry, Marin, and Jemma; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and fur kid Frodo. She is predeceased by her father Joe/Daddy Joe, mother Eunice/Gami, sisters Joanne and Beverly, and many fur kids.
She was loved beyond compare and will be missed forever more.

Terry will rest in peace at Ascension Cemetery in NY, next to her father, mother, and sister. Celebrations of her life will be held in Fort Worth, Texas and Suffern, NY in January 2023, with details to follow via Remembrance of Therese Scott.
