Sarah Charity VanDyke

Sarah was born in Greasy Creek, VA, to John and Helen White. She was a member of Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Richlands, VA prior to moving to Georgia in 2000 and making her home with her daughter, Delores and special son-in-law, Roy Miller. She was a member of The Pentecostals of Brunswick until about 2012 and a member of Revival Center Apostolic Church from 2012 until present.

Her greatest joy was telling people about the plan of salvation, or being baptized in Jesus name, and receiving of the Holy Ghost and the experience of speaking in tongues. Her greatest achievement was her devotion to God and family. She was the prayer warrior for the family and friends. Sarah was also an excellent housewife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and five brothers, leaving her as the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Coy VanDyke, Sr.; daughters Brenda Darlean Dowdy and Wilma Nadean Sanson; son-in-law Thomas Wheeler, Sr.; great grandson Thomas McCoy and great-great grandson, Dalton Polly.

She is survived by one son, Elmer Coy VanDyke (Jr.) and wife Carolyn of Richlands, VA; daughters Sue Jearlean McCoy and husband Perry of Walhalla, SC, Barbara Jean Wheeler of Richlands, VA, Norma Jacquelean Vassar and husband John of Roanoke, VA and Delores Eilean Miller and husband Roy of Brunswick; Sons-in-law Bert Dowdy of Norton, VA and Hayes (Bud) Sanson of Bristol, VA; 20 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren and a special friend and caregiver, Lori Ann Allen Hay. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and one special niece, Sandy Edenfield and husband Earl.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Joel Longshore and Reverend Danny Webster officiating. Burial will take place in Greenhill Cemetery in Richlands Virginia at a later date to be announced.
