Sarah “Sally” Rodgers, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, passed away June 7, 2022 after prolonged illness. Sally was born October 27, 1942 in Jefferson City, Missouri to Royce Dawson, an engineer and utility executive and Carita Dawson, a journalist, author and homemaker. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Missouri and moved to St. Simons Island, where she was a teacher at St. Simons Elementary. She met Scottie Rodgers at a hurricane party during Hurricane Dora in 1964 and they married in 1965. Their life together took them to Atlanta, Phoenix, Grand Rapids, Michigan, then back to Atlanta before retiring to St. Simons Island.
Sally enjoyed painting, writing, travelling, birdwatching and nature. She was a member of the St. Simons Presbyterian Church and deeply appreciated the support of her special church friends through the years.
Predeceased by her parents, husband, sister (Lida Price) and niece (Laura Price), she is survived by son, Royce Rodgers, granddog, Cici; daughter, Deborah Carver, grandson, Dylan Carver, great-granddog, Sammy; nieces Maureen Macero and Margaret Price, and nephew, Daniel Price.
A graveside service is planned for Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens, 2015 Frederica Rd, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.
