Ruby Lee Townsend

Ruby was a lifelong resident of McIntosh County and was a homemaker. She loved cooking for her family and friends. She loved flowers particularly roses. She loved her family and loved spending time with them whether on a shopping trip or at her vacation home in Hiawassee. Ruby was of the Baptist faith and was the oldest living member of South Newport Baptist Church. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Lessie Poppell; and her husband Benjamin Franklin Townsend, Sr.

She is survived by her two sons Ben Townsend Jr. (Teresa) and Glenn Lee Townsend; her sister Mildred Rozier; her brother Clayton Poppell; her two grandchildren Whitney Townsend Williams (Lewis) and Travis Townsend; her two great grandchildren Ryder and Cam Williams; her two step grandchildren Jamie Nettles and Kristin Williams; and her five step great-grandchildren Carly Williams, Lela Nettles, Lydia Nettles, Logan Nettles and Joe Nettles

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the South Newport Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Grissino and Rev Danny Stillwell officiating. Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Bruce Deverger, Jamie Nettles, Irvin Davis, Brad Proudfoot, Tommy Draffin and Clark Laroche.

Honorary pallbearers are Nellie Ryals and Margaret Lamb, the men of South Newport Baptist Church, members of the Roger Sapp Sunday School Class, and men and women of the Eulonia Church of God.

Mrs. Ruby's family would like to thank the Heartland Hospice staff and her wonderful caregivers Nellie Ryals and Margaret Lamb for the care she received.
