We are sad to announce the passing of Roy B. Gentry, Jr. (RB) who went to be with the Lord on January 4th, 2023 after a short illness. He was 76 and passed peacefully surrounded by all of his family. He was born to Kathleen “Kitty” Gentry (Schuman) and Roy B. Gentry, Sr. on October 23, 1946, in Beckley, West Virginia.
He graduated from Fayetteville High School in in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966. Upon graduation from Parris Island, SC, and combat training in Camp Lejeune, NC, he was subsequently sent to fight in Vietnam in 1967. He participated in Operation Prairie and also Operation DeSoto and was in Vietnam for 13 months. He spent 20 years in the Marine Corps and was selected as a M.Sgt. before retiring in 1986. He was very proud of his Marine Corps service.
From 1986 to 2021, he owned and operated RB Gentry and Associates – a real estate firm servicing the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia. He had a huge personality and was loved by everyone he met.
He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 2014 and preached the word of God until the very end. He was most proud of his service to the Lord and his steadfast Christianity.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen (Kitty) Gentry, and his dad and namesake, Roy B. Gentry, Sr.
He is survived by his two sons, Roy B. Gentry, III, (Jennifer) and Timothy K. Gentry (Leigh Anne); brother Hank Gentry (Elaine); niece Lauren Gentry Shaver (Robert); nephew Kevin Gentry (Lauren); grandchildren Elijah Gentry, Gunnar Gentry, Victoria Wolfe (Tori), Blain Gentry, Robert Gentry, Brody Gentry and Scottie "Bean” Wolfe. He is also survived by his Aunt Barbara Stacy and Uncle Sonny Schuman and lots of other wonderful West Virginians.
The service will be held at Edo Miller funeral home on Wednesday, January 11th, at 11:00am with the visitation starting at 10:00am. The graveside service will be held the next day at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:00pm for family only.
