Robert Elliott Strickland, age 86, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. Robert was born in Brunswick on January 19, 1938, to James Leonard Strickland and Ether May Cason Strickland. He graduated from Glynn Academy in the class of 1956, and he was a long-time employee of LCP Chemicals, retiring with over 30 years of service.
After serving in the Georgia Army National Guard for over 20 years, Robert retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He served on the Glynn County Board of Commissioners (District 3) from 1995 through 1998, and on the Glynn County Board of Education from 2004 through 2006. Robert was an avid fisherman and a gifted gardener. He was an original member of Christian Renewal Church in Brunswick.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ether Strickland; his wife, Janice Sapp Strickland; and his brother, Reppard Nevion Strickland.
He is survived by his three children, Christa Strickland, Karen (Spencer) Joyner, and Mitchell (Terri) Strickland; his grandchildren, Andrew (Kalee) Strickland and Danielle Strickland; his great grandchildren, Kirby Strickland and Andie Jane Strickland; the mother of his children, Pat Todd; his sister, Julia Keltner; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastors Mark Linton and Bill Ligon officiating. Interment will follow at Palmetto Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Strickland, Matthew Joyner, Donnie Dawson, Barnett Taylor, Paul Stokes, and Mike Merritt.
