Robert Calvin Smith

Robert C. Smith, 86, of Rincon, departed this life Monday, December 28, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, December 31, 2015 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Elder Ron Scarboro and Larry Carver officiating. Dave Smith, Harold Smith, Craig Smith, Duane Scarboro, Steve Waters, Alan Howard, and Danny Scarboro will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Born February 28, 1929 in Screven, Georgia to the late Rollie R. and Eva M. Smith, he was a 1948 graduate of Glynn Academy and was retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 from The Army National Guard after serving 42 years. He was a former resident of Brunswick, Georgia for over thirty years, a resident of Jonesboro, Georgia for over twenty years, and a resident of Rincon, Georgia for nearly ten years. Mr. Smith was a former member of Norwich Street Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director, and Deacon. He was also a member of Jonesboro First Baptist where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Choir member. Mr. Smith was currently a member of Rincon First Baptist. He was also a member of the Gideon’s International in Henry County and Effingham County. Mr. Smith was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren on the water. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Arvel Smith and James Harold Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years Elise Scarboro Smith of Rincon, son, Kerry Smith (Margaret) of Rincon, daughter, Sandra Kennedy (Bert) of Bozeman, MT; 7 grandchildren, Brian Smith, Michelle Tillman, Shelley Sumner, Amanda Sumner, Lindsey Tebeau, Ben Kennedy, and Matt Kennedy, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
