Mr. DeLong was a native of Moneta, Virginia, but had resided in Darien, Georgia most of his adult life. He was the son of the late Paul and Hilda DeLong. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth DeLong. He served his country with honors in the United States Army. He served ten years active service and 12 years in the National Guard. Mr. DeLong was also a retired electrician with REA and the Civil Service at Fort Stewart. He was a member of Glory Worship Center in Darien, Georgia where he served as a deacon.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 6-8:00 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, Georgia. The funeral with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Glory Worship Center in Darien, Georgia. The interment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery.
Mr. DeLong was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Hilda DeLong; his late wife, Joyce DeLong; a daughter, Louise Essex, four sons, Brantley, Howard, Jackie O’Neal, and Earl Dicks. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth DeLong; four daughters, Hazel Sumner, Shirley O’Neal, Joanne Meyer, and Annie Essex; four sons, Frank O’Neal, Ernest O’Neal, Bobby Dicks, and Gerald Dicks; five sisters, Carol Jarrell, Opal Brown, Lois Saylors, Gail Whit, and Marsha DeLong; four Brothers, Jimmy, Junior, David, and Vernon DeLong. Mr. DeLong was blessed to have several grandchildren and great grandchildren to also survive. In addition, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. DeLong loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary and also collecting antiques. He took great pleasure in gardening and fishing. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. However, his family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
