Bob was born December 15, 1927, in Adel, Georgia to his parents Clifford and Clarice Rice, both of whom precede him in death. He graduated from Glynn Academy High School in 1946. He served with distinction for three years in the United States Army , fighting battles in Korea.
In 1960 he was fortunate to receive the hand of Mary Blanche Haney , a Mississippi girl who came to teach at Glynn Academy. Their marriage prospered for fifty-seven years and five months. Bob and Mary Blanche were blessed with two daughters, Edie Hipchen and Robyn Kicklighter. His life is celebrated by his wife and his daughters and sons-in-laws, Phil Hipchen and Scott Kicklighter; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Mariana Hipchen; five grandsons, Baxter Scott, Hunter Bailey, Chandler Lee, Asher Murphy, and Victer Garrett Kicklighter; brother Jerry Rice and wife Cathy, nephew, Kevin Rice, Jim Page and family; sister-in-love, Anne Johnson and nephew John Thomas Johnson and family and many extended family members and friends who so enriched his life.
Bob spent most of his career with NAPA auto parts. Bob leaves his family and friends with a deep and lasting legacy. His devotion to the Lord and the Church, work ethic, morals, frugality, tireless devotion to family and friends, sense of humor, and ability to make people laugh are characteristics that will be cherished and that mark the lives of his descendants.
Bob was an active member of College Place United Methodist Church . He held many offices through the years and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, Tuesday Morning Prayer Group, and the Men’s Club where he helped start the annual Men’s Fishing Trip. He loved to fish and was a “fisher of men” in his own special way.
A visitation will be held at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Edo Miller Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 12 and the funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 13, at College Place United Methodist Church, 3890 Altama Avenue, Brunswick, with Pastor Dr. Bill Daniel and Methodist Evangelist Rick Bonfim officiating. Graveside services will be held in Adel, Georgia, Saturday at 3:30 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Val-Del Road, Pallbearers will be four of his grandsons and two sons-in-love. Honorary will be Fellowship Sunday School members. Memorials may be made to College Place UMC.
