Richard D. Moon, 87, passed away Tuesday, October 16th, 2018, at home. He was born December 5th, 1930, in Savannah, Georgia to Richard O’Dean Moon and Vera Dean Joiner Moon. Richard attended school in Monroe, Georgia and one year at Reinhardt Jr. College in Waleska, Ga. He joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1948 and served as radioman aboard several ships until his honorable discharge in June of 1952. At that time he came to Brunswick where his mother lived and secured employment with Hercules, Inc. retiring after 35 years’ service in 1988.
Richard and Barbara Adams Moon were married in 1954 and had three sons who were born between 1954 and 1960. Richard and his family are members of College Place United Methodist Church where they served in various capacities and found love and support over the years.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with friends hunting and fishing, photography, and cooking. He smiled a lot and had a wonderful sense of humor. He had a quick wit and enjoyed life.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Adams Moon; sons, Richard Dean Moon, Jr. (Ken Brown) and Robert Lee Moon; and a sister, Joanne Moon Capper of Satellite Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph O’Dean Moon and Vera Joiner Moon; and a son, Rex Anthony Moon.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22nd at College Place United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Daniel officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
A private graveside burial of his ashes will be held Monday, October 22nd, at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Georgia.
