Mr. Vaughn was born September 5, 1934 in Waycross, Georgia to the late Jesse Pete and Vurrie Laughinghouse Vaughn. He was a resident of Brunswick since 1966 and was the founder and former owner of Port City Body Shop. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Pat, for 60 years. He enjoyed being with his family, helping others and fishing. He was a very loving, giving person. Gene was well known for his hard work ethic and perfectionism in his work.
He was a member of Christian Renewal Church of Brunswick. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Lyon Vaughn of Brunswick. They have four children: Diane O’Quinn (Rick), Genie Stillman (Tony), Julie Wood (Ronnie), and Brian Vaughn (Julie Shields) all of Brunswick. He is also survived by one brother, William (Bill) Vaughn of Waycross, three sisters, Betty Howard of Waycross, Carolyn Sowell (Gene) of Hamlin, NC, Faye Clark (James) of Miami, FL, a brother-in-law and sister-in law, James and Janice Lyon, Sr. of Greenville, SC. He also has 10 grandchildren: April O'Quinn-Evans (Barrett), Megan Standley (Patrick), Blake Blankenship, J. B. Abbott (Melanie), Jennifer Abbott, Jennifer McCoy, Alicia Vaughn, Brooke Vaughn, Joette Turner (Sam) and Luke Wood (Kelly), four great grandchildren, Rylee Abbott, Lindsey Abbott, Emma Abbott and Isabella Grace Wood, and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday March 27, 2014 at Christian Renewal Church of Brunswick with Rev. Bill Ligon and Rev. Mark Linton officiating. Interment will be held at 4 PM, Thursday in the Oakland Cemetery in Waycross, GA.
Active pallbearers will be: Brian Vaughn, Ricky O’Quinn, Ronnie Wood, Tony Stillman, J. B. Abbott, Jr, Blake Blankenship, Barrett Evans, and Patrick Standley. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mitch Strickland, Karl Self, Rusty and Carrie Poole, Bobby Mussara and Jeff Carlin.
The family will receive friends in the Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday night and request contributions to Christian Renewal Church or Hospice of the Golden Isles in lieu of flowers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
