Randall (Randy) Thomas Sellars, passed away peacefully at his home on June 14, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born to Thomas Patterson Sellars (deceased) and June Winn Sellars on July 21, 1961 in Burlington, NC. He leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Tomee Gerrold Sellars of the home, and five children, Amanda Goplin (Jesse) of Whitewright, Texas, Abby Long (Kenny) of Greensboro, NC, Tyler Carroll (Alex) of Peachtree City, GA, Grant Sellars of St. Simons Island, GA and Reed Wilson (Ali) of Nahunta, GA. He was lovingly known as Pops by his grandchildren, Grey Wilson and B, Ellie Sellars, and Maddie, Hayden and Henry Long. While he wasn’t able to be Pops long, Randy adored his grandchildren and he will live on through them.
Randy graduated from Walter M. Williams High School in 1979 and went on to Elon College where he earned a Bachelors of Education. After graduation, he moved to St. Simons Island, GA where he resided for 39 years. He was an avid Duke fan and golfer, both loves inspired by his father. Randy was an excellent cook and loved sharing recipes, meals and Sunday suppers with his family and friends.
In addition to his mother, June Winn Sellars of Burlington, NC, he is survived by sisters Patti Strange (Robert) of St. Simons Island, GA, Dotti Davis (Ron) of Burlington, NC, and Jill Caldwell (Nevin) of Apex, NC. He will be missed greatly by nieces and nephews (Jimmy, Robbie, Emily, Sarah Morgan, Emma and their families) who affectionately called him Unc.
A funeral service will be held on June 19, 2023 at 11:00 am at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick, GA with a Celebration of Life Gathering and reception at Village Creek Landing, St. Simons Island, GA following the service at 1:00pm. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Simpsons, David Jones, Jeff Jones, Randy Dobson, Robbie Strange, Jared DiVincent, and Kurt Houser.
In honor of Randy’s love for all things Duke, please wear Duke blue on Monday.
