Patsy Jean Gossage passed away on December 21, 2023. Patsy Jean Gossage was born November 27, 1932, in Houston, Texas to her parents Don and Bonnie Cotton. She had an older sister, Bonnie Wallace, also now deceased.
Pat was married to her husband, Ed Gossage, on Christmas Eve 1952, and they would have celebrated their 71st Anniversary this year. They resided in Atlanta, Georgia where Ed was a student athlete, football player, at Georgia Tech. Pat worked as a secretary to the Fountain Sales at the Coca-Cola Company before starting their family, which included four children: Matt and Linda Gossage, Davidson, North Carolina; Ken and Dede Gossage, Gainesville, Georgia; Linda and Charles Luke, Lawrenceville, Georgia; Janet Gossage and Allen McDaniel, Pottsboro, Texas.
The family moved to Louisville, Kentucky after Ed finished his tour of duty in Korea. They returned to Atlanta in 1969. These years were filled with volunteering at PTA and booster clubs, being active members of St. James United Methodist Church, and attending various extra-curriculum events of her four children. Pat and Ed were founding members of Johns Creek United Methodist Church. Later they became members of Alpharetta First United Methodist Church where Pat volunteered many years with the literacy Group teaching immigrants English. She also became a Stephen Minister for three years.
Pat joined ALTA when she was 55 years old and played tennis for 20 to 25 years. Her teams were the City Runner-Ups six times and won the City Championship once.
They retired to St. Simons in 2006 and become members of St. Simons United Methodist Church. Pat took up golf at age 75, playing at Sea Palms Golf Club. In 2014 she was Player of the Year. Pat played tennis and golf until 2018.
Their family grew with 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was so proud of each of her children and loved them dearly.
Her later years were filled with reading good books and playing bridge with her husband at Marsh’s Edge. She appreciated the relationships and friends she made at Marsh’s Edge.
