Nathan “Papa Nate” Barnett

Nathan Barnett, “Papa Nate”, 64, of Brunswick, GA passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015. A native of Fulton County, Georgia, he had been a resident of Glynn County for most of his life. Mr. Barnett was born September 7, 1951 to the late Linton L. Barnett and the late Sadie Rogers Barnett. He graduated from Glynn Academy in 1969. Mr. Barnett was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving as Sergeant in the USMC from 1969-1972. He received his Associates Degree in welding and was employed most of his life in the auto repair industry. Mr. Barnett was a member of Glyndale Baptist Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had a special love for classic cars. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm in Brantley County. Mr. Barnett, “Papa Nate”, enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth Barnett of McDonough, GA and David Barnett of Franklin, NC.

Survivors include his wife Pam Higginbotham Barnett, daughter Tracy Burgstiner and husband Adam, grandchildren Austin Parke and Carley Burgstiner, brother Melvin Barnett and wife Diane all of Brunswick, GA; sisters Nancy Glover and husband Autry of Virginia Beach, VA and Shirley Barnett of Smyrna, GA; his companion Bear Dog; longtime devoted friend Danny Gatewood of Brunswick, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 3:00 PM- 5:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

His Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Glyndale Baptist Church with Reverend Ken Creekmore officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Boyd, Jim Goins, Ronald Lee, Terry Teston, Gary Wainright, Terry Wainright, Gary Sellers, Ronnie Jordan and Steve Tyre.

The family requests for those desiring to make memorial contributions to please make them to a charity of the donor’s choice.
