Dr. Stapleton was born December 14, 1937 in Terre Haute, Indiana the son of the late Morgan Chester Stapleton and the late Edna Stapleton. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Irene Stallworth Stapleton; daughter, Ellen Harrison (Brian), a son, James Morgan Stapleton; three grandsons, Michael, Morgan, and Ben Harrison. He is also survived by his sister, Anita Hood (Larry) and a niece, Laura of Oklahoma City, OK.
Dr. Stapleton received his BA Degree from David Lipscomb College, his MA Degree from George Peabody College, and his PHD from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Stapleton served thirty years as a teacher and administrator in the University System of Georgia. He retired as Academic Dean of Brunswick Junior College.
Dr. Stapleton was a member of Grace Harbor Church of Christ (formerly St. Simons Island Church of Christ) where he served as an Elder and Adult Bible School Teacher. Dr. Stapleton also served as the Minister of the Berry’s Chapel Church of Christ in Franklin, Tennessee. He also served as Minister for the Woodstock, Georgia Church of Christ for three years.
The family will receive friends between 10:00 – 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor Dr. Stapleton’s life will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Minister James Collins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made in his honor to Georgia Agape, 3094 Mercer Drive, Atlanta, GA 30341.
