Melvin Leroy Johnson, lifelong residence of Brunswick, Ga., passed away Wednesday, the 3rd of January 2018 at the age of 81. He was born the 5th of October 1936 to the late Joe Johnson, and the late Cora Goodbread. Melvin was a welder by trade, employed with the Pipefitters Union in Jacksonville, Florida retiring at the age of 62. He is a lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Melvin's happiness was found in his faith and family.
Survivors include his children, Brenda (Doug) Lewis, Joe Johnson, Jason (Jennifer) Johnson and Jacob Johnson, twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many other relatives.
In addition to Melvin’s parents he is preceded in death by his wife Valenie Strickland Johnson; two daughters Janet Johnson, and Diana Freeman; sister Vera Jones; and a brother Daniel Johnson.
Family will receive friends 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Ave. in Brunswick, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home where Reverend Hinton Johnson is to officiate. Burial will follow the service at Palmetto Cemetery, 3412 Ross Rd. in Brunswick.
