Melba M. Stephens, 83, of Brunswick, GA passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Southeast Georgia Health Systems Brunswick Campus. She was born in Wayne County October 6, 1931 to the late Charles Alexander Martin, and the late Maci Nichols. Mrs. Stephens is a graduate of McIntosh County High School receiving her degree in Education from Brunswick Junior College and Armstrong State College. She had been a resident of Glynn County since 1951. She retired from the Glynn County Board of Education after 31 years, teaching 3rd grade at Ballard Elementary School.
Mrs. Stephens is a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a charter member of Pine Haven Baptist Church.
In addition to Mrs. Stephens parents she is preceded in death by her husband James Isaac Stephens, and three brothers Lennis, C.W., and Clayton Martin.
Mrs. Stephens is survived by two daughters, Janet Stephens Ellis of Brunswick, GA, and Elaine Stephens Wheat of Jesup, GA; her son James Martin Stephens of Brunswick, GA; six grandchildren Stephanie Robertson of Brunswick, GA, James Ellis ( Selena Simpson ) both of Brunswick, GA, William Ellis and wife Heather of Jesup, GA, Jennifer Travis (Jessie ) and Nicki Daniels both of Brantley County, and James Stephens of Brunswick, GA; her brother Melvin Martin of Jesup GA; her sister Juanita Vinson of Brunswick, GA; seventeen great-grandchildren; five great- great- grandchildren and many other family members.
Visitation will be held at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday November 26, 2014 at Pine Haven Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Morgan presiding. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Wayne County.
Serving pallbearers will be Justin Ellis, Michael Fantine, Victor Sanders, Allen Fantine , Julian Ellis, and Brandon Tanner. Honorary pallbearers are the Doctors, and Staff of the Coastal Cardiology.
