Matthew was born in Waycross, GA to parents William Henry Brooks and Judy Walker Maret Brooks.
Matthew was a devoted Christian, loving father and husband and friend to so many. His wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He played football and tennis in high school. He was active in the youth group at Central Baptist Church. Due to his friendships, he was voted most popular and he playfully found a way to bring this up in random conversations. He graduated from ABAC in landscape design. Matthew enjoyed camping, fishing, golf, Georgia football Saturdays, and most importantly, his family. Emily and Matthew met in the summer of 2007 at a cousin's house. Everyone saw the fireworks when they shook hands and that was that. They were married at St. Marks Episcopal Church November 14, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Katharine Polly Brooks, grandparents, Herbert Walker Maret and Hugh and Marjorie Brooks.
Matthew is survived by his wife and best friend, Emily Grace Cody Brooks; two children, Walker Alan Brooks and Leighton Henry Brooks, all of St. Simons Island; a brother William Jason Brooks and his wife, Theresa DeBlanc Brooks and their children, Connor and Harrison Brooks, all of New Jersey; grandmother, Polly Milford Maret of Hartwell, GA; Father and Mother-in-law, Alan and Lynn Cody of St. Simons Island; brother and sister-in-law, Rob and Samantha Cody and their children, Colt and Juliette of Philadelphia and Will and Jacqueline Cody and their children, Riley and Lennon of San Francisco.
