Mary Kay was born in Brunswick on February 17, 1947 to her late parents Henry and Velma Lancaster Coates. She was a life-long resident of Brunswick graduating in 1965 from Glynn Academy. Mary Kay was a retiree from the Glynn County Board of Education. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Brunswick, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was an active choir member until her health started failing. Mary Kay was a loving, kind person, always positive and encouraging. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Harry; her two sons Corey (Katy) of Greer, S.C. and Brett (Angela) of Greenwood, S.C.; her grandsons Clayton and Luke, her sisters Dorothy (Wayne) Dixon of Iva, S.C. and Betty (Mike) Ryfun of Tifton, GA; numerous nieces and one nephew, great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 23, 2017 at First Baptist Church Brunswick. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8pm in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
