Born March 30, 1947 to George Hay and Lucy Cody Stevens of Saint Simons Island, Georgia. Marguerite graduated from Glynn Academy in 1965 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Georgia where she was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota. She later became a Music Teacher in the Gwinnett County Schools.
After she met the love of her life, Ben, in Atlanta, life took her traveling around the world, residing in Ohio, Upstate New York, Atlanta, and finally returning to her beloved Saint Simons. Growing up with sand in her shoes, Marguerite’s roots ran deep in the Island and she never hesitated to share its rich history to ensure future generations felt the same community she experienced growing up. She was a proud member of the Civinettes, continuing the work her mother started as a founding member. As the seventh generation of Stevens to belong to Christ Church Frederica, she held a deep devotion, serving on the Alter Guild and several other organizations.
Her many passions included all things music, dancing, cooking, and planning get-togethers. She was a die-hard Georgia fan, and rarely missed a game. Anyone who encountered Marguerite felt her warmth, charm, humor, grace, and talent.
Marguerite is survived by her husband of fifty years, Ben Williams, daughters Betsy Fitzgerald, Marguerite Lynn Williams, and Meredith Anne Williams, two grandchildren Isabel Lily Fitzgerald and Lucy Grace Claxon-Williams, extended family, many friends, and the Saint Simons Island community. She is predeceased by her brother, Charles George Stevens III.
Marguerite loved her family dearly. Her children were the light of her life and her relationship with her extended family was cherished. She touched the lives of so many people. She will truly be missed and will never be forgotten.
A visitation is planned for December 19, 2022, 5:00-7:00 pm at the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A church service will be held on December 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Christ Church Frederica, followed immediately by a grave-side burial and reception at the church.
