Born July 6, 1934 in Danville, Virginia, she was the daughter of William Bransford Ballou Jr. and Marcia Penick Ballou of South Boston, Virginia.
She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, Virginia, and attended Hollins University and Averett University.
She was a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church, Danville, serving twice on the Vestry, once as junior warden. She was a member of the Epiphany Churchwomen and served on the Altar Guild.
Other organizations include the Gabriella Garden Club (served as president), The American Red Cross Board, God’s Storehouse Board, Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History Board, The Wednesday Club, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia, The Jamestowne Society, and The Huguenot Society.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Frank Graber Turner. She is survived by three children: Rangeley Turner of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Elizabeth Turner Leemhuis, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Dr. Banks Whitaker Turner (Margaret) of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kenton Graber Scearce, Whitney Ballou Crawford, John Ballou Leemhuis, Frank Sexton Leemhuis, Timothy Banks Leemhuis, William Knebel Turner, Bransford McNeill Turner, and Samuel Rangeley Turner, and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, William Bransford Ballou III, and son-in-law, John Stephen Leemhuis.
The funeral will be held at 11 am on February 24 at Epiphany Episcopal Church, Danville, Virginia, with the Reverend K. Drew Baker, MD, officiating. Private internment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Danville, Virginia.
