With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of London Charles Roberts, Jr., also known as Booger and Pappy, who left us on Monday, November 6, 2023. Born September 6, 1952, in Brunswick, Georgia, he was a lifelong resident of Glynn County. He was a remarkable individual, cherished by family and friends for his extraordinary zest for life and his unique character.
London graduated in 1970 from Glynn Academy. He worked for his grandfather at Coastal Produce before beginning his career at Brunswick Pulp and Paper. After 33 years, London retired as a bleach plant operator. He advocated for working people's rights and served as Local 400 Union Vice President for many years. He worked hard for his family and instilled a strong work ethic in his children.
London was an avid lover of the outdoors. He loved spending time on the Satilla River in a cabin he helped his father build in the late 60s. He was a passionate angler, having been taught to fish by his father from a young age. His love for fishing brought him joy his entire life. London's gentle and caring nature was evident in his appreciation for all creatures, including turtles, squirrels, cats, dogs, and parrots.
London had an infectious smile, laughter, and a wonderful sense of humor. He had an extraordinary knack for finding humor in everyday situations and spreading joy wherever he went.
During their many travels, London and his wife, Sue, made unforgettable memories. Some of their favorite memories were on cruises, at Opryland, Biloxi, Las Vegas, ball games, and races.
London also had a love for social interaction. Being with his family and friends, playing cards, and getting together with the Romeos (Retired Old Men Eating Out) were cherished pastimes. The camaraderie and shared laughter during these gatherings were a testament to London's ability to create lasting bonds with others.
London had a passion for music, especially classic rock. Music always played in the background while he worked in the yard or garage. A few of his favorite bands were Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, and Van Halen.
London will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of family and friends. His legacy of laughter, love for nature, and enduring friendship will continue to resonate in our lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, London Charles Roberts, Sr., and his mother, Gloria Mae Brannen Roberts.
London is survived by his wife, Sue Roberts; children, April Rhodes (Kenny), Claire Bell, Sheree Flanagan (Charles), and Shawn Peterman (Dana); grandchildren, Priscilla Camby, Addison Cody, Asher Rhodes, James Dereck, and Ashley Flanagan; great-grandchildren, Isla Camby and Olivia Dereck; a sister, Nancy Blount; as well as nieces and nephews, Jason Blount, Lauren Blount, and Ethan Blount.
