Linda Chapman Lamb, 76, of Darien, Georgia, died June 30, 2022. She was born in Louisville, Georgia on June 14, 1946 to the late Samuel and Claudine Chapman. Linda is survived by her younger brother Samuel Chapman of West Virginia. She was a proud mother to her son Christopher Patrick Lamb (Palmer) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and to her daughter Melissa Lamb Kiser (Scott) of Marietta, Georgia. Linda’s greatest joys were her amazing grandchildren, Patrick, Lena, Jackson, Sam, and Griffin. She also treasured the times she spent in Metter, Georgia with extended family.
Linda earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Science Education, both from Georgia State University. She taught in the DeKalb County School System for over 30 years. Most of this time, she taught at Fernbank Science Center and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta. Here, she developed and taught courses in Anatomy and Physiology for high school students and Ecology and Natural Sciences for middle and elementary students. While at Fernbank, she also co-authored educational programs in Vermicomposting, Venomous Snakes of Georgia and Marvelous Monarch Migration.
Linda served as the Chairperson of the Wild Garden Project for four years and was a member of the Monarchs Across Georgia Steering Committee. She is one of the founding members of Coastal WildScapes, a non-profit, which is exclusively dedicated to preservation and restoration of native coastal habitats. Linda was passionate about native plants and the concepts of sustainability, stewardship of the land, and ecosystem service.
A celebration of life service will be held in the coming weeks.
