Lewis is survived by his two daughters Brittany Hatch and Kirsten Hatch; son Jacob Hatch; his father Lewis Emery Hatch, Jr.; his mother Jean Idell Hatch (preceded in death); and many close friends.
Lewis was a natural athlete. As a child he was a champion swimmer, participating in state and regional championships with his two younger brothers Jack and Craig. In his youth he was also an alter boy at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Whitmarsh, PA.
During his high school years Lewis attended Valley Forge Military Academy, where he continued to excel at sports. He was on the swim team, football team, wrestling team and was named Athlete in his class.
He then went on to attend the University of Vermont where he also played football.
As a young entrepreneur, Lewis and his close friend Irv Boyd opened an antique shop in a building they purchased together in Chestnut Hill, PA in 1979.
A natural businessman Lewis worked with his father in sales, before going on to start a second business D and L marketing in 1984, a company which designed and produced Axminster & Wilton carpets. For over 25 years he produced these high-end loom woven custom carpets, for thousands of clients across the globe, in a mill he started in Kidderminster, England.
Over the course of his adulthood, Lewis also lived in and restored numerous homes, in Pennsylvania, Vermont, Maine, and Georgia.
He was an excellent golfer, a talented guitarist, and a loving father and friend who will be missed dearly.
A Memorial Service honoring Lewis’ life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 24 at Wesley United Methodist Church 6520 Frederica Road, Saint Simons Islands, GA.
