The funeral Mass will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. William Catholic Church.
Born Aug. 12, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Sigmund Charles and Mary Kennedy Kaufmann, Leslie came to St. Simons Island in 1949. She graduated with honors from Glynn Academy in 1965, then studied music at Oberlin College and Stetson University. In ongoing studies, she received her Master in Music Education from Jacksonville University.
While in Jacksonville, she continued in music instruction at JU, and was often a featured harpist at public performances for dignitaries and celebrities. Leslie began her music studies at age 12 under renowned harpist Artiss de Volt, of Sea Island.
After returning to the Golden Isles, Leslie continued as a harpist and teacher. She also pursued advertising and publishing. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Logan Johnson, and son-in-law, Gregory Johnson, of St. Simons Island and Dublin, Ga.; two grandchildren, Sadye and Savannah Barrow and a great-grandchild, Kennedy Barrow-Sanchez, all three of St. Simons Island; five siblings, Jeanne Kaufmann of St. Simons Island, Harry Kaufmann of Charlotte, N.C., Marion Kaufmann of Dania Beach, Fla.; Chuck Kaufmann of Lebanon, Mo., and Lucy Allison of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Madison Johnson IV.
