Katheryne Elizabeth Johnston (affectionately known as MomMom), of Saint Simons Island, Georgia, passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born in Cameron, Texas on November 24, 1940. Kay attended Cameron High School and the University of Texas, Austin. She was preceded in death by her loving and adoring husband, Jim Johnston (Dawg). They were married on December 23, 1961, enjoying 58 wonderful years together.
Kay was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and had an unwavering love for her Lord and Savior. She was a model of southern grace; never without her nails painted and red lipstick. Kay was the first to find good in all situations and sent inspirational text messages to all she knew. “Smile, it makes you feel better” was her mantra. She loved to cook for her family and was consistently doing good for others. She always had her homemade sugar cookies on hand for anyone who needed a boost. She was a sports enthusiast with a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers, her beloved Texas Longhorns and the Atlanta Braves. Her most cherished moments were those spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by parents Emory B and Essie McCall Camp and brother Emory Camp. She is survived by her children Anne Heath, Sherri (Steve) Johnson, Jimmy (Chrissy) Johnston, Tommy (Kristie) Johnston; and grandchildren Will (Alexys), Ryan (Perra), Reed (Kaylie), Gray, Camp (Abbi), Ben and Callie; brother James Camp (Pat), sister-in-law Connie Camp.
