Joy graduated from Darien High School then attended beauty school. She owned Total Beauty by Joy in downtown Brunswick then later worked alongside her mother at Carolyn’s Hair Styles in Darien. Joy loved to sing and performed at various events. She was a member of the First Baptist Church on St. Simons and enjoyed singing in the choir. Joy’s world revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Carolyn Kicklighter and a brother, Randall Kicklighter.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lon Lewis of St. Simons; three sons, Bud Lewis of Eatonton, GA, Michael Lewis (Cindy) of St. Simons and Adam Lewis (Carla) of St. Simons; three grandchildren, Jackson Lewis, Holly Lewis and Brooke Lewis; three brothers, Howard Kicklighter (Mary), Keith Kicklighter (Debbie) and William Kicklighter; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Keller (John) and Bessie Kicklighter and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church on St. Simons. Pallbearers are Butch Bolin, Dennis Buie, Brad Butler, Billy Nelson, Roy Parks, Danny Saunds, Vic Waters, and Bert Yeargan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm at Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Baxley. A reception will follow the graveside service.
