I met Barry one time after I found out he was brother.  By then I was in my late 50's and we tried to connect (he was so kind and loving towards me) but not having known each other at all it was hard.  I am so sad that I didn't try harder to see him the last few years.  I'll always cherish the last hug he gave me and him saying I love you sis.  Lesson learned to never give up trying to stay in touch with loved ones

His mama aunt Ann was my dad's sister. I used to hunt and fish with her and Barry and his dad J. B. Poppell. We used to go to  the Jekyll causeway and cast nets for mullet or fish crab baskets, aunt Ann's devil crabs were out this world. Barry and I had to take 666 for a cold we caught riding one night from Fernandina where uncle JB owned a beach house. I remember when uncle JB shot his first dear he was in his 40's. Barry and I used to squirrel hunt and catch copperhead snakes in mayonnaise jars.
They lived off old Jesup highway in such a simple home all the way up till uncle JB died. I visited uncle JB and have a picture of him and I standing in his driveway just a short while before he died. I remember he could talk with a strong British accent if he wanted to make you laugh. I remember Barry and I spending the night in a tent in the yard
Chris Rickenbach was there too, they were both scared to death if I recall Chris was so scared I think he went home. Barry and I when we could scrape up a few cents would walk down to Blackerby's dairy and buy some cottage cheese and sprinkle sugar on it to eat. He was an energetic guy. If you saw a squirrel while hunting he'd jump in front of you to shoot it first. Once the squirrel fell and crawled into a knot hole at the base of the tree when I tried to did it out and grab it by the tail, wam ! he almost sliced my finger off, I still have the scar. He was my first cousin I spent a lot of time with them even living with them for a month or two at a time during school. vacation. I have a million memories of him and I and his mom and dad. From the time I was 9 yrs old  until I drove uncle JBs 56 Ford. I saw him last on hwy 17 near Shoneys I didn't stop to say hi,  at the time i wasn him. May he rest in piece I guess I knew him as well as anybody. Playing ball in the yard when Mike Poppell came over to walking up to cheap Charlie's to pick up bread or milk. 
I share these memories but have millions more, he only knew me by Cuchi.

It still  doesn't seem real. I was not ready to say goodbye. Tbere are so many things that I need to say to you. I love you daddy and I know that you are in a much better place. I know that this birthday had to be anazing bei g that you were able to spend it in heaven with papa. You will always be in my ❤. Hopefully I will be joining you and papa soon. I love you daddy!! It still doent seem real. I know that it was time for you to go but I just wasnt ready. There are so many things that I wanted to say. I love you so much daddy.  Im sure this birthday was the best in 19 years being you were able to spend it in heaven with papa. Until we meet again you will always be in my heart. Hopefully I will see you and papa soon. I am very sorry for your loss.  I first met Barry when we both worked at MAP International.  We was always willing to  assist in any way and I remember a lot of laughs that we shared.  He definitely kept things lively! Our paths didn't cross often and the last time I remember was in 2007 when he transported my dad to Hospice.  Again his sense of humor made reality somewhat easier as he joked with my dad before carefully picking him up and placing him on the stretcher.   And if I know Barry, he's now spreading smiles around heaven.  May God give comfort to all the family.  
     

I met Berry when I started working at Fred’s in Brunswick nearly 5+ years ago. Working there wasn’t always enjoyable but Berry defiantly made it a great place. He was a wonderful man and a great friend. He was always there to be a listening ear when I needed someone to vent too. He always knew the right things to say when I needed to hear them. There will never be another man like him, he was truly one of a kind. I can honestly say that Fred’s will no longer be the same without him. A lot of the calls there were people looking to see if he was in the parking lot selling his produce!! My heart breaks for his family and friends . Y’all are defiantly in my prayers. 

I enjoyed working with Barry,  both at GCFD and South Georgis EMS.  He was a talented man who served the people of Brunswick and South Georgia  well. Thank you for your service Barry!
