Joseph Q. Mumford, 71, of Waynesville, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Monday, June 6, 2011 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Webster and Rev. H. E. Wheatley officiating. Interment will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with military honors. Danny Norris, Donavan Norris, Rusty White, Joe Bowles, Dana King and Matt McCloud will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Cofer, Skip Russell, Richard White, Carl Hutchinson, Tommy Hull, Robert Waller, and David White.
Born November 22, 1939 in Lyons, Georgia to the late John Quillan and Alma Rea Mumford, he was the was a U.S. Army Veteran and owner and operator of JMS Construction. Mr. Mumford was a former resident of Glynn County before moving to Brantley County in 2007. He was United Pentecostal in faith and was a member of Waynesville Church of God. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Loretta J. Mumford, of Waynesville, a daughter, Stephanie Mumford of Waynesville, two sons, Joseph R. Mumford and wife Lee of Waynesville and Jonathan Mumford of Marietta, four grandchildren, Kaled Kea, Donavan Norris, Mikel Leggett and Mallory Leggett, two brothers, Russell Mumford and wife Vyna of Bluffton, SC, and Donald Mumford and wife Debbie of Brunswick, four sisters, Wynette Cherry and husband Murry of Bowling Green, KY, Sue Johnson and husband Daniel of Hortense, Patricia Palmer and husband Chip of Augusta, and Linda Durden and husband Ray of Brunswick, several nieces and nephews.
