Johnny Olan Floyd, age 91, of Brunswick, GA passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Southeast Georgia Heath System. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Lewis Burton of North Brunswick Christian Church officiating. Entombment with military honors to follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 am until the funeral hour. Pallbearers are Noah Williams, Luke Williams, Benjamin Floyd, Caleb Hightower, Jay Hightower and Bill Nutgrass. Honorary pallbearers are Boyd Cope, Dave Hunter, and Steve Pittman.
Johnny was born on January 18, 1927 in Eastman, GA to his parents John Benjamin and Willie Pearl Wright Floyd. He was a 1944 graduate of Dublin High School, a United States Navy veteran of WW2 and worked for 40 years with Georgia Power and was a Georgia Power Ambassador member. He was a former president of the Brunswick Lions Club, member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), and former chairman of Boy Scouts of America where he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He was appointed by Governor Frank Harris as honorary Lt. Col; and honored by President Lyndon Johnson for saving a life at the Oleander Motel pool. He also helped start the Dublin Touchdown Club in Dublin, Georgia.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Edith Brooks Floyd.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam Nutgrass (Bill) of Brunswick and Vicki Hightower (Jay) of Dunwoody, GA; two sons, Johnny Michael Floyd (Janie) of St Simons Island and Gary Floyd (Lori) of Birmingham, AL. Along with 24 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Brunswick Christian Church or to the Hospice of the Golden Isles.
