John R. Hardee III, 79, of St. Simons Island, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. Graveside rites were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 5, 1020 in Christ Church Cemetery with Rev. Douglas M. Renegar officiating.
Born September 18, 1930 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late John Richardson Hardee Jr., and Rosemary Humphries Hardee he was the owner and operator of JR Hardee Shrimp Company and was very involved in all aspects of the business. Mr. Hardee was a graduate of Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, NJ. He also received a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Management and a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech where he was member of Chi Phi Fraternity and Phi Delta Epsilon Fraternity and the Industrial Engineering Society Fraternity Alpha Pi Mu. He was a member of Christ Church, St. Simons Island and was a First Lieutenant in the US Air Force, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hardee enjoyed boat building, was a private pilot and an avid reader. He was a Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Men’s Group at Christ Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary “Jinx” Hardee of St. Simons Island, a son, John R. Hardee IV, a daughter, Mary Winfree Hardee of St. Simons Island, and two grandchildren Richard Davenport Wray and Robert Colin Wray.
